After seeing many cross stitchers start diamond painting, I was truly intrigued. I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to dive in though. Over the summer we visited my parents and their awesome craft store in my little hometown. My Mom showed me the diamond paintings and that they were doing really well there. It’s so similar to how a cross stitch pattern is laid out, but you don’t have to thread a needle so each “stitch” goes quicker. I told her that if she ever got a Starry Night by Van Gogh, I would do it. If you are also a lover of Doctor Who, you will understand my attachment to this piece of art. LOL I quickly forgot about it with everything else going on with daily life.

Christmas rolls around and their box of presents arrives. There were a few in there for me. LOL I was excited to see what they were because the present from my dad was heavy and likely a book, but what book could it be?!? And there was this long box that was quite unusual in size. The suspense was killer! Especially since we didn’t have Christmas until the Friday after, as the boys were with their dad. The book is “Becoming” by Michelle Obama and that unusual box was, of course, the diamond painting. I hope to sit down and read more this year. This book is on the top of my list.

I wish I would have taken more pictures of the box the diamond painting box and the goodies when I opened it. Lesson learned. LOL I was a little excited to just jump in and start.

It is a Diamond Dotz kit. The diamonds are round instead of square. I don’t know the differences between the two but it might be fun to see. So, you use a stylus with a cup and wax to move the diamonds to the painting. It sticks because the canvas is incredibly sticky. I will still probably spray it with a lacquer to make sure they never come loose before framing it.

Here’s a close up of what the diamonds look like. They’re so sparkly! Oh, I also put the diamonds in snack sized baggies with a piece of card stock and labeled them with their number and symbol to make it faster to find the ones I wanted without losing them all over.

I worked on it for an hour or two at a time. It probably took about 20 hours to complete. That’s not including preparing the diamonds for quick access. There are many ways to organize diamonds and it really has a lot to do with how involved you want to be in the hobby. I recommend watching several YouTube videos on storing the diamonds, how to do one, and the many ways to finish it. I had my cat wanting to be in the middle of things sometimes too. LOL It’s a good thing she’s so adorable and sweet.

Here is my completed painting. I would watch TV or listen to music while I worked.

I love it! Now to figure out how to frame and where to hang it.
Thanks for visiting! Happy crafting! See you soon!
